Day 1

Introduction to Maritime Wireless Connectivity

Focus: Understanding how the vessel connects to the world.

  • Onboard Hardware: Antennas, Tracking & Blockage Zones

  • Advanced Routing: Subinterfaces & Router-on-a-Stick
  • Network Management: Visualizing Topology with UNITY
  • Practical Exercise: Designing the Yacht's Logical Network

Introduction to Maritime IT Server Infrastructure

Focus: Building the digital core and services.

  • Computer Science Concepts: CPU, RAM & Storage
  • The Maritime Rack: Physical Constraints & Enterprise Hardware
  • Physical Protection: UPS (Power) & RAID (Data Redundancy)
  • The Problem with Physical Servers: Inefficiency & Waste
  • Virtualization: The Hypervisor & Virtual Machines
  • Resilience Features: Snapshots, High Availability (HA) & Live Migration
  • Service Hierarchy I: Foundation (NTP, DHCP, DNS)

Introduction to Maritime Cyber security

Focus: Protecting the vessel from internal and external threats.

  • Threat Landscape: Threat Actors (Explorers, Criminals, Warriors)

  • Attack Tactics I: Social Engineering, Phishing & Smishing
  • Attack Tactics II: Technical Force (Zero-Day, Brute Force, Malware)
  • Defense Technology: Firewalls, EDR & Email Security
  • Active Defense & Governance: SOC, Threat Intel & NIST Framework
  • Practical Exercise: Anatomy of a Breach ($100k Captain Case)
